Review: Pureboarding "TWO"

Activity: Alpine snowboarding

Last year Joerg started producing a new board, the TWO, and in February he kindly left me a 164 board to ride and experiment with. I really enjoyed riding it -- it was a blast. I rode the 164cm board.

Usually I ride boards that are 180+, SCR ranging from 10.5 to 13, and wasn't sure what to expect from the TWO. I expected to enjoy the width of the board, as I like riding with a lower angle on the back foot -- my angles are usually 50-55FF and 40RF. On the TWO I was able to drop the back angle down to 30 with some and 35 without any overhang.

I felt right at home on the board as soon as I took two turns on it -- one toeside, one heelside, and the board felt very familiar. At first I thought it softer, but then I compared it with my other boards and realized that it's a lot stiffer -- which is why it carves like a longer board.

The upturned tail was great for riding switch, and for some tricks I tried. The tricks, esp. buttering the nose when going into switch, were easy and fun to do. I tried some air ollies, buttering the tail, doing some 360's, switching in air, the board wasn't a limitation in any of these.

Now that I've ridden it for 5-6 days I can say it's a great carving board. The past 2-3 days I rode it on icy hardpack in the morning, and it held an edge very well -- definitely outperformed my confidence level, and when I pushed myself the board just held. In the afternoons the snow softened, eventually turning into slush, and the board rode well on all of these conditions as well.

I did not have a chance to ride it in powder. Don't be fooled by the twin-tip and think it's just for tricks, etc. If I could only have a single board, I think this would be the one.
